Sons of Horus Knight

Finally built my Imperial Knight... decided to go all in on the color scheme and make him a dedicated choice for the SOH army I'm doing.

The Lord of Iron 03

Base is done. Went for a mix of damage and covered in the dust of a dead city.

The Lord of Iron 02

Read did the shoulder Paul driven with a dark red because the other blue was simply too bright.

And started doing the damage and weathering to the body of the knight itself

The Lord of Iron

Am indulging my Hobby ADD to take some time for Perterabo. The challenge will be not overwhelming his dull tones with the blue of the Knights shoulder pauldron.

I started with Prussian Blue -- but then used too much white in the mix for highlighting. Hopefully a blue wash will tone it down a bit.

My favorite detail -- the slain Knight Pilot.

Sons of Horus Project - Contemptor Drednaught

Finished him last night. Lot of blending re the Sea Foam, still learning the right mix on broad flat panels.  And Cthonian runes are a free hand challenge for me.  I am, however quite pleased with the dirt effects on his feet.

But 'Done' is the best color of all, and now I can move on to the terminator consul and tactical squad.

Sons of Horus project

I started working up some Sons of Horus. Having done the test models, I've got a good handle on the color scheme I want to go with, and have plenty of examples from the FW color plates in Books 1 & 2.

Roughing out a full tatical squad and the Legion HQ.

Taken from an Istvaan III color scheme. Very much a WIP still but the color contrast is interesting to me.

My original test model - soon to become a Legion champion.

Resuming Operations ...

After a good year of dormancy I'm slowly coming back to life with my hobby.  New work station set up ... and it's letting me get [re]started on some projects -- notably a deep dive into the Horus Heresy range via my Calth boxed sets and those 40K minis that I can bring over to the 30K range.

Nearly finished SOH sergeant - used Vallejo's USMC Tanker Green for it with a Cathonian Camoshade wash -- think I'm going for a straight Nuln Oil from here on out.

WIP -- A CSM sorcerer rendered in Thousand Sons colors.  These models are basically devoid of any identifiable Chaos iconography, so they translate well ... though the backpack is a bit much .... I may take it off.

Hobby Progress: Urien, Warhammer, Wolf Guard, and Miscellany

One by one I'm popping out some finished work ... keeps me sane.

The old DE model for Urien ... all the key themes of stapled flesh and torture devices are there.  A standout in a field of in otherwise heretofore medicore range.
And OOP Warhammer 'Dogs of War' Witchhunter model.  Good fun to mix the browns with more browns to achieve that Puritan / 17th Century effect.  Gets me thinking about Mordheim, actually...

A relatively easy mod to the now-OOP Logan Grimnar model.  The flail is from the (now) OOP Chaos Maruaders box.

 And finally ...

A miscellaneous fighter from the Reaper range. Painting the reds in his cloak was good fun.

Project - Counts-As Squiggoth pt. 1

The Historicon Flea Market was very good to me a couple weeks back ... I picked up an Archnarok new-on-sprue for just $25.

So now I get to make something that I've been interested in for quite some time -- a Snakebite Clan counts-as Squiggoth.

At this point I am leaning towards a lobba to make it comport with the general ruleset for the Orks, but there is definitely some appeal in having a direct fire kannon too.

It's big, but not as big as I'd hoped, so I plan to build out a big howdah for it.

Separately, its legs are too expansive to allow for true basing -- too big a footprint for the bases used for a Dakka Jet, for example.

Mmm...tasty Chaos Space Marine...

The 'little' guy on the right is what I'm aiming for...
